The SubMix Mixer, from Low-Gain Electronics is an improved version of the older SubMix7, albeit designed specifically for live performance. Additions include a total of twelve active inputs, each with a linear attenuator, for a total of seven separate mix outputs. In terms of outputs, the module features four mix outputs (A, B, C, and D) and three submix outputs (AB, CD, ABCD).
The module was specifically designed to mix waveform outputs from VCOs. However, it implements active inputs rather than passive mixers. The latter drops the signal to the point where they appear to be out of phase. Essentially, they function as on/off switches for the waveforms. Conversely, active inputs supply the summing bus with a constant load for a more robust and smooth mix.
If all this wasn’t enough, the SubMix Mixer is capable of handling both audio and CV signals, and its submix output can be used in the construction of feedback loops.
